Donna Jean Thygesen, the daughter of William Christian and Anna M. Phippen Ludwig, was born June 25, 1934, on her parents' farm east of Exira, and died at her home in Douglas Township, Audubon County, Iowa on March 21, 2004, age 69y 8m 26d.

Donna was baptized at the Exira Christian Church. She attended Exira Community Schools, graduating with the Exira High School Class of 1952. After graduating from high school, she was employed by the Exira High School as a secretary for one year, and then was a secretary for Carlson Hybrids in Audubon.

Donna was united in marriage to Marvin Russell Thygesen on August 10, 1955 in Maryville, MO. To this union, five children were born: Becky, Teresa, Terry, Patti, & Connie. Donna was a homemaker for several years, then was employed part-time at several businesses. In 1977, she was employed by Audubon County Newspapers, first as a typesetter, then later worked as a proofreader until she retired in 2003. Donna and Marvin farmed west of Audubon in Douglas Township from 1957 to 1995. Marvin also drove truck for T.R. Andersen. They enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes Football games.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother, Darwin Ludwig; and her brother-in-law, Walter Dreier.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Thygesen of Audubon; her children: Becky and husband Steven Randeris of Audubon; Teresa and husband, Dwight Boysen of Howells, NE; Terry Thygesen of Audubon; Patti and husband Joe Horan of Carlisle, IA; Connie and husband Michael Golightly of Earlham, IA; her grandchildren: Stacey, Amy, and Matthew Randeris; Zachary Boysen of Howells; Mikala Golightly of Earlham; her step grandchildren: Holly, April, Chrissy, Lesley, Doug, and Jenny; her step great-grandchildren: Gavin, Maddie, and Logan; her brothers: Glen and wife, Pearle Ludwig of San Bernadino, CA; William (Bill) and wife, Janice Ludwig of Shenandoah, IA; her sisters-in-law: Alice Dreier of Audubon; and Nadine Ludwig of Des Moines, IA; her brother-in-law, Wayne and wife Phyllis Thygesen of Lebanon, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held Wednesday March 24, 2004, 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. Rev. Steven Frock of the Hamlin Lutheran Church officiated. Organist was Diane Kleckner. A special Hymn sung by Amy Ludwig was "In the Garden", and "How Great Thous Art" by Jo Meiners. Other special music was "One Day At A Time". Casket Bearers were Rick Ludwig, Michael Ludwig, Steve Ludwig, Darrel Hansen, Rick Paske, and Donald Andersen.

Donna was known as a very thoughtful, friendly person who encouraged others. She would choose words that would help and heal, and wasn't one to gossip. She is greatly missed.
