Albert was the 1st of 2 children born to Albert Buxton Hartzell and Marie Louise Guérard. Known as "Roger", he grew up and attended Long Beach schools, graduating from Wilson High in 1951. He attended Long Beach City College and studied electric/electronic theory for which he had a vast knowledge. He retired after 20 years as a electrician foreman at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. He married 1st, Jean Patricia Nosworthy (1935-1990) and had two children. He had three children with Joyce Holloway, then married Victoria Adkins (1920 – 2008) without issue. The cause of death was respiratory failure, plural effusion and mantle cell lymphoma. He was treated for lymphoma for about 10 years which included a stem cell transplant.
