Galen B. Browning, 89, went to be with his Lord Savior at 2:40 pm, on March 7, 2013, at Freeman Neosho Hospital Neosho, MO. He was born July 18, 1923 in Pierce City, MO to Heber and Mabel (Seaton) Browning.
Galen was a lifelong area resident and for many years, alongside his Dad, owned and operated Browning Furniture Store in Neosho until his retirement. Galen was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during W.W. II. He was also a State Representative of District #129 for 4 terms. He was a member and served as lead music director at Calvary Baptist Church, Neosho, for over 25 years. Galen was also a member of Calvary Quartet, Gideons International, Neosho Chamber of Commerce, and served on Neosho City Council.
Galen married Leila Jo Fowler on October 9, 1944 and she preceded him in death on June 18, 1988. He then married Frances M. Cushman on December 26, 1988 and she has also preceded him in death. He married Myrna Whitmire on August 10, 2002 and she survives. He is also survived by his children; Gale Potter of Neosho, MO, Ann Ashcraft and husband, Randy of Richmond, VA, Cathy Browning of Neosho, MO, Mark Browning of Loma Linda, MO, Dale Mitchell and wife Ilene of Joplin, MO; step-children; Cathy Bay of Webb City, MO, Cindy Daugherty of Neosho, MO, Todd Whitmire of Neosho, MO; 7 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
