The love of his life, Letty Helberg, preceded him in death on July 6, 2011. They were married for 65 years and had four children; two sons and two daughters; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Bono played professional baseball until WWII interrupted his position as catcher for the San Francisco Seals. He served in The US Navy in Okinawa as a gunman and mine sweeper.
