A graveside service for Mr. Roy Culberson Johnson, age 80, of Nacogdoches will be held at 1 PM, Monday, March 11, 2013, at Alazan Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Wilson officiating. Mr. Johnson passed away on March 8, 2013, in Nacogdoches. He was born on August 4, 1932 in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Frank W. Johnson and Lou Ella Castleberry Johnson.
Roy grew up in Alazan and helped his father work until he was fifteen years old when he moved away to work on his own. Roy was inducted to the United States Army on April 22, 1953, to Fort Hood, Texas, where he worked as a mechanic. He was discharged from active duty April 21, 1955. He moved back to Nacogdoches in 1959, when his father passed away, to help take care of the family farm. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. His joy was working around the farm as his father had taught him many years before. Roy worked at Vardeman Construction for about 35 years with a total of more than 45 years in highway construction.
Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Glenda Elizabeth Rogers Johnson ; son, Roy Glenn Johnson of Houston, Texas; daughter, Donna Lynn Self of Melrose, Texas; grandsons, Sean Ian Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia, Clinton Alvis of Spurger, Texas, Shannon Alvis of Melrose, Texas ; step grandson, Brixey Self of Melrose, Texas; step granddaughters, Stephanie Baker of Nacogdoches, Texas and Amanda Hilliard of Lufkin, Texas; great grandchildren, Mykala Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Jackson Johnson, Taylor Alvis, Sienna Alvis, Logan Alvis, Taven Alvis, Jacob Alvis, Cassidy Self, Brooklyn Baker, Parker Hilliard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank W. Johnson and Lou Ella Castleberry Johnson, five brothers and six sisters.
