Born March 18, 1914 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Anna (Staley) Brown.
Ruth was a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ, Hanover. She was active for many years in the church choir, served as a pianist on various occasions and was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. Mrs. Alwine was also an active member of the "Ladies of Grace" women's group at the church. She was a seamstress for many years with Middleburg Sewing Factory, Hanover. Ruth really enjoyed traveling and especially loved going on Bus Trips.
Her survivors include her daughter-in-law, Dolores Alwine, Hanover; five grandchildren, Linda Baile and her husband Bruce, Hanover, Randall Alwine, Spring Grove, Pam Alwine, Hanover, Jody Sinclair, Hanover and Troy Alwine and his wife Bonnie, Hanover; eight great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Charles T. Alwine and her sister, Laura "Pete" Miller.
A service to celebrate the life of Ruth N. Alwine will be held at 11:00am Monday, March 11, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Dr. Bruce P. Bouchard officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Monday from 10am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
