OBITUARY-MERRITT
William Merritt was born in Kabble [Cabell] county, West Virginia, October 29, 1837. He came to Missouri, December 25, 1855 where he resided until 1861 when he enlisted in the confederate army and served four years. He was united in marriage to Bettie H. Daniels December 25, 1865. They resided in Louisiana, three years, then moved to Indiana residing there three years and six months, then came to Missouri where they have resided since. To this union three children were born, Chas. H. Merritt, Mrs. Maggie L. Lauber and Mrs. Sadie F. White. He is survived by his aged wife, three children, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.

He was united with the M.E. church South in 1871 at Bedford Chapel and until about fifteen years ago when he moved his membership to Savannah.
