Roy was born Oct. 12, 1912 in Blue Rapids, son of Bert and Hattie Boyington Sutton. He was a self-employed mechanic most of his working career. He had lived in Blue Rapids most of his life. He moved in 1941 to San Diego, CA, where he worked for Consolidated Airplane Manufacturing, welding and riveting planes for the war effort. He returned to Blue Rapids after World War II. He opened Sutton Repair Shop, which he operated until 1982 when he moved to Blue Valley Nursing Home.
He married Gertrude Schriner May 27, 1940 in Westmoreland, KS; they were later divorced. She preceded him in death in 1993.
Survivors are his children, Patsy Sutton, Blue Rapids, KS, Nancy Steel, Riley, KS; and Richard Sutton, Marysville, KS; one brother, Floyd Sutton, Blue Rapids, KS and one sister, Bernice Hulsey, Denver, CO; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Ralph Sutton; and a sister, Myrtle Fincham.
