KEARNEY - James "Jim" Bertrand, 67, of Kearney died Sunday, March 3, 2013, in Kearney.
Family burial will take place in Upland. A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Eagles Club in Kearney and will follow the burial. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 15, 1945, in Upland, Neb., to Bernard and Melrae (Christensen) Bertrand.
In 1966, Jim married Joan Williams.
Survivors include his brothers, Glen Bertrand and his wife, Jae, Leon Bertrand and his wife, Luyre, and Gale "Diddly" Bertrand and his wife, Cinda; sisters, Dolly (Bertrand) Grahms and her husband, Orlan, and Cindy (Bertrand) Schneider and her husband, Ron; son, Blain Bertrand; daughters, Stacy (Bertrand) Shaide and her husband, Monte, and Gretchen Bertrand and Christi Mitchell; grandchildren, Brock Shaide, Madisyn Shaide and Nathan Bertrand; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Jim grew up in Upland and graduated from Upland High School in 1963. Jim moved to Colby, Kan., where he worked in sales and helped on the family farm.
Jim and Joan lived in Colby where they raised their three children.
Jim was a fun-loving father who was known for his calm demeanor. Jim enjoyed life to the fullest and always greeted everyone with a smile. Jim had a passion for restored cars and enjoyed visiting with friends at the local Eagles Club. Most of all, Jim loved watching his children, his grandkids and all their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Bertrand; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
