Mrs. Ella Butcher was born in Somerset township in 1889 and had lived in the Murphysboro area all her life. Her siblings include Grover Herring of Murphysboro, Arlie Herring of Knoble, Arkansas, Mrs. Allie Nellist of Kansas City, Missouri and Miss Fannie Herring of Anna.

The former Ella Herring, she married Linden Butcher in 1911. He survives as well as children, Mrs. Clara LeMarchal, Mrs. Minnie Dickerson, Carl, Ray and Leonard, all of Murphysboro; Earl of Aberdeen, Maryland; Leo of DuQuoin; and Mrs. Ruby Wright of Dexter, Missouri.

Mrs. Butcher died at the age of 63 at her Murphysboro home following an illness of several months. She was a member of the Pate Chapel Church.

Gladys Schewe (nee Herring).
1909 - 1937

The daughter of Ms. Ella (Herring) Butcher, Gladys was married to Edwin Schewe.

Gladys drowned after jumping into the Mississippi River from the McKinnley Bridge about 10:45 p.m. on 13 May 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri.

At the time of her death, Gladys was 28 years, 2 months and 8 days old. She was buried on 14 Jun 1937 and was survived by her husband. MEMORIAL ID 44100624
