The son of Rose Hart Misczuk and the late Felix Thomas Misczuk, Tom was a graduate of Port Jervis High School and later attended the Center for the Media Arts in Manhattan. Tom received an EMMY for Outstanding Investigative Reporting, as well as a New York Film Festival Award for documentary reporting and producing. He had also received several other EMMY nominations, and various other awards for everything from features to investigative reports including two Associated Press awards presented to him posthumously in December 2004. In addition to his nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, friends, and co-workers, Tom was survived by his wife, Judilyn Steele Misczuk; mother, Rose Misczuk; two sons, Michael John Misczuk and William Misczuk; a daughter, Catherine Rose Misczuk; four brothers, Michael Misczuk, Peter Misczuk, John Misczuk, James Misczuk and two sisters; Patricia Chrylser and Maurene Mouton.
