Marriage Oct 1849 in Sackets Harbor, Jefferson, NY.

Mrs. Matilda Jenks, nee Barker, was born at Shellfanger, England, on June 14th, 1823, and died of heart failure, March 23rd, 1902, aged 78 years, 9 months and 9 days. When but 7 years of age she came with her parents to this country, settling in Jefferson county, state of New York, where on Oct. 25th, 1849 she was united in marriage with Alonzo P. Jenks, afterwards moving to St. Lawrence county, N.Y., where they resided during the years 55-56. In the spring of 1857, she moved with her husband and family to Wisconsin settling in Lafayette county, where with the exception of one year spent in Dodgeville, she continued to reside until the hour of her departure.
Her husband died May 11th, 1890, nearly 12 years ago, and she has herself been grievously afflicted for many years past. Her disease was of such a nature that she was compelled to remain at home and was deprived of much of the ordinary enjoyment of life. But she did not complain and bore her suffering with remarkable patience and truly christian fortitude.
Her family consisted of three sons, Milfred and Volvney V. Jenks of this community, and Judge Aldro P. Jenks, Dodgeville; also two daughters, Mrs. Amy Merriam, Darlington, and Ella, who died in infancy. She also leaves to mourn, 4 brothers- James, William, Henry and Byron, and three married sisters, all living in the state of Utah.
