Our lives will never be the same. We lost Basil Zenith Taylor February 27th, 2013. He passed away at Swedish Hospital in Seattle with his loved ones around him.
He was born July 7th, 1923 in Donna, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. His parents were Edna Ruth (Idol) and James Elija Taylor.
After graduation from high school he went to trade school. World War II was declared on December 7th, 1941 so he and three friends decided to find work at the Bremerton Ship Yards. That is where he met his wife, Edythe. They were married October 19th, 1943. Basil later joined the U.S. Air Corp and was sent to Iwo Jima, in the Pacific. He returned home in 1946.
He became an electrician and went to work at Hanford Nuclear Facility for three years. He returned to Western Washington and worked for Holert Electric in Seattle. He then established his own contracting company, bidding and supervising jobs in Alaska, The Philippines, Guam, Wake Island and other parts of the world. He continued as an electrical contractor till retirement. Three years after retirement he bought the Golden Nugget Card Room and Cafe, which he owned for ten years. He then retired, permanently.
Basil was a kind and giving man who could never say 'no' to anyone in need. He'd always say, 'we're lucky we're not in their place'.
He was married 69 years to Edythe. He is survived by his loving wife and son Jack, grand-daughter Lauren and her husband Alex and great-grandson Taylor Sedgemore and grandson Dan Wing. Also sisters-in-law Ethel Hill, Esther Jordan and Elayne Chase and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends whom he dearly loved.
Preceding him in death was his mother Edna Taylor, father Elija Taylor and three brothers Eldon, William Seally and Hoyt Taylor.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 8, 2013 with visitation starting at 10 a.m. and funeral at 1 p.m. at Weller Funeral Home, 327 North MacLeod Ave, Arlington, Washington, 98223. A committal service will follow at Arlington Municipal Cemetery with military honors.
