THOMAS LEONARD BESTOR, age 88, of 59 Timber Trail, Manchester, died Tuesday (March 30) at a local convalescent home. He was born in Ellington Dec 6, 1893, son of the late Cyrus and Lucy Leonard Bestor and spent most of his life in Hartford and West Hartford, before moving to Manchester in 1966. He was a retired vice president and trust officer of Hartford National Bank & Trust Co., and had been in the banking business 50 years. He began his banking career in 1910 at Riverside Trust Co., where he was secretary, and he then served as secretary of Hartford-Aetna National Bank, at which time a trust department was created. After various bank consolidations, Mr. Bestor became vice president and trust officer in 1940, and was vice president and trust officer from 1954 until his retirement in 1960. While a resident of Hartford, he was a trustee of the South Park Methodist Church many years. He was also director of the Wickham Real Estate Co. and the States Co. He was a member of the South United Methodist Church, Manchester.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Morton McCann Bestor; a son, Richard C. Bestor of Windsor; a daughter , Mrs. Richard Doris Deffaa of Montoursville, Pa.; a step daughter, Mrs. Louis Gall Callarina of Carlisle, Mass.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 E. Center St., Manchester. Private committal services will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. friends may call at the funeral home today, 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
