DR EUGENE LEONARD BESTOR, age 91, formerly of Mountain Road, Bloomfield, a former chairman of the Bloomfield Town Council, died Thursday at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, Brooklyn, Conn. Born in Norwich, he lived in Bloomfield most of his life. He was graduated from Hartford Public High School, New York University and Flower Hospital, New York, Class of 1907, Summa Cum Laude. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Bloomfield and served as a chairman of the church finance committee. Dr. Bestor practiced as a physician and surgeon here for 45 years. He was a member of the Medical Honor Society, Alpha Gamma Rho and was a 50-year member of the Connecticut Medical Society. He was a member of the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. Active in civic affairs, Dr. Bestor served as a member of the Hartford and Bloomfield school boards. For 18 years he served on the Bloomfield Town Council, serving as finance chairman and later as chairman of the council,
He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Barbara B. Rogers of Hudson,Wis. and Ruth B. Messenger of Southbury; a brother, Thomas L. Bestor of Manchester, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral is Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Bloomfield, with the Rev. Roscoe Metzger and the Rev. Ralph Seguine officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 776 Farmington Ave, West Hartford. Memorial donations may be made to Pierce Memorial Baptist Home.
