Beryl Phillips Kaigler, 96, died in her sleep on Feb. 27, 2013 at Rosemont Assisted Living residence in Kingwood, Texas.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb and 10 a.m. Monday until services there at 11, with Dr. David Millican, the Rev. Joe Blackwell and the Rev. Brent Causey officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mrs. Kaigler was born Dec. 28, 1916, in New Orleans, the daughter of John and Retha Phillips.

She lived most of her life in McComb and Fernwood and retired after 20 years with the U.S. Postal Service, having achieved Postmaster for Fernwood, MS 39635 .

Beryl married Milton Kaigler in 1943 and was a devoted wife and mother. She was Worthy Matron of the Order of the Easter Star, Gussie Evans Chapter 234.

She reared her two daughters and centered her family's life around the local Fernwood Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member at the time of her death. She is credited with helping choose the motto for the Church, "Standing on the Promises of God."

She taught Sunday school and served on many committees through the years.

Beryl traveled to many golfing activities in support of her husband and made many close friends through those relationships.

Upon retiring as Postmaster, sudden onset macular degeneration caused Beryl to lose her sight. But many felt it gave her better "vision." She never concerned herself with her own difficulties or life's problems, but rather cared for and prayed for the best for everyone else she met.

Beryl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; a young brother, John Winston Phillips; and two sisters, Betty Hughes and Retha Linnert.

She is survived by her daughters and their families, Sandra K. Helms and James of Norman, Okla., and Judy K. Lawson and Jim of Humble, Texas; two granddaughters, Kimberly Walker of Alliance, Neb., and Dyonne Helms of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two grandsons, Milton Lawson of Houston, Texas, and Matthew Lawson
