Daughter of Patrick William Connelly and Edna May (Behanna) Alger, who were married on 27 Dec 1905, in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. Her father was born in Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. in 1883 and her mother was a homemaker. I do not know what her father's occupation was. He passed away when Marie was 6 years of age and her mother took a 2nd husband a little less than a year later.

Like her brother Bartley, Marie neither married nor had any children... but unlike Bartley she was hardly a loner. Per the 1940 census, she worked as an attendant at Letchworth Village State School in Rockland County, New York (a position she had maintained at least since 1935). At some point Marie left New York and returned to Pennsylvania.

In Mar 1983, Marie passed away in Monongahela at 76 years of age. She was laid to rest at Mon Valley Memorial Park alongside her mother, step-father and Bartley.

** Letchworth Village, which was an excellent facility at it's opening in 1911, came under scrutiny in 1921, which was heightened even further in the 1940's (during Marie's tenre there). By the 1970's, the horrific conditions that the physically and mentally disabled patients of all ages, as well as staff, suffered while at Letchworth became widely exposed.

After more than 70 years of increasingly deplorable patient care, negative media coverage, improper funding, as well as the serious disrepair of the more than 130 buildings spread out over the 2,362 acres of land that constituted the institutions campus, Letchworth Village was permanently shut down in 1996.

The institution is believed to be haunted by the many patients who perished there, hundreds of whom were only known by a number because their families were embarrassed of their connection to them. Patients' names are buried in the facilities' archives, off limits to the public. The Letchworth Village burial ground is maintenanced every few months, but hardly anyone ever visits... Then again, hardly anyone ever did.

All pertinent information I have included here can be verified by U.S. Federal Census Records for the family in conjunction with various public records, including any documents I may upload to this memorial.

Though I can not prove with 100% certainty that this family's composition and relation status is as I display it to be, I can say that the circumstantial evidence weighs very heavily in favor of the accuracy of these stated familial connections.
