Mr. Staples, a retired tobacco expert, was born in Greensboro. His family was prominent in early Greensboro, the family home standing where the county courthouse now is.
Mr. Staples was a veteran of the Spanish American War.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Joanne Switzer Staples; a son, Norman A. Staples; five daughters, Mrs. Arthur F. Brundage of Pleasantville; Mrs. Joseph Loughran of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Livingston Parmoll? of Hicksville, N.Y., and Misses Mary E. and Camilla Staples, both of Briarcliff; a brother, George U. Staples of Boston and a sister, Mrs. Catherine S. Tallman of Chattanooga, Tenn.
