I had great sadness hearing of Jim's passing, but great joy when I recall my contact with Jim over the years. In 1957, I purchased my Monocoupe & began rebuilding it. The project required many drawings to complete but I was told that all Monocoupe drawings had been lost in a fire. The FAA recommended I get in touch with Jim. Here I was patched jeans and no money, looking for help. Thank goodness, Jim was the angel sent to me. I used the drawings Jim provided at no cost & was able, after 4 years, to get the plane flying. In return for his kindness, when I returned the drawings, I provided him with propellor blades that he used on his project.
Over the years copies of Jim's drawings have helped a great many Monocoupe plane owners, thru Jim's efforts and his distribution of the drawings, through the Monocoupe Club.
About 1990 & 1992 I finally got to meet Jim again in St. Louis and give him a ride in the Monocoupe that he helped me make possible.
Jim was a fine man who I greatly admired. I am sure his flight West was smooth, and when it is my turn to fly that path, I hope that I will find him perched on a cloud, with his favorite Monocoupe and his dog "Puppy".
My mother received this letter from one of my dad's friends after my dad pasted away.
