Major, US Army retired, Donald Charles "Don" Adamson was born on May 17, 1922 in Visalia, Tulare County, California, and he grew up around agriculture and developed a superb work ethic and technical curiosity.
Don started his military career working weekends in the US National Guard before graduating from Visalia Union High school which gave him the experience to serve in World War II as a first lieutenant in the US Army.
After discharge from the war, Don returned to Visalia, began his career at Southern California Edison. He was married about 1948 to Marie Carol Bernays (1923–2007), who was born in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, the daughter of Ralph Bernays (1898–1989) and Katherine Marie (Zulauf) Bernays (1893–1967).
Don remained active in the California National Guard and served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired with the rank of Major after 20 years of military service, and in 1959 he moved to Altadena where he retired in 1982 as Chief Protection Engineer after 36 years with Edison.
Don was a sports fan and was an excellent marksman, an avid bowler and a senior golf champion. He was also a world traveler having visited over 100 countries, was a collector of foreign art and a skilled woodworker.
He stayed active after retirement with investing, charity and tax filing assistance to others through AARP.
He was 90 years old when he passed away on November 30, 2012 after a long life filled with love, purpose, adventure and generosity to others.
Preceded in death by his wife, he was survived by a sister-in-law, three children, four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Graveside Services were held by the National Guard at Riverside National Cemetery.
