Aged 76 years.

OBIT:

September 19, 1937 - February 17, 2013 Surrounded by family, Levi T. "Butch" McFarland, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Port Angeles WA on Sunday, February 17, 2013 due to complications of Parkinson's.

Born in Ellensburg, WA on September 19, 1937 to Roy and Maggie (Quasdorf) McFarland, he was the 9th of 10 children--7 boys and 3 girls. He attended Ellensburg schools, was a Boy Scout, had paper routes, and began a lifelong love of the outdoors spending his free time hunting, fishing, and camping. He married Beverly Berger in 1954 and together they had 3 children--Charlotte, Albert, and David Joe.

They moved to Snohomish area and Levi worked as a meat cutter for BAR-S Meats. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1968. In 1969 he married Maryann (Olson) Kuhns and together with her two children Kenneth and Karol, moved to Anchorage, Alaska. There, Levi worked as a civilian on Elmendorf Air Force Base in a variety of jobs including meat cutter, truck driver, garbage man, Boiler Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician and flight line technician (loading and unloading aircraft). He retired in 1996 after 22 years of service.

His greatest love, second only to his family, was his love of the outdoors. All 5 children have many great memories of the adventures they had together while hunting moose, elk, and bear, fishing for salmon and halibut, riding quads and snowmobiles, and camping in the frozen North. After retiring, Levi and Maryann returned to the Lower 48, settling in Port Angeles to be near family and grandchildren. They will all miss his mischievous smile, hearty laugh, guitar playing, and stories of his adventures in AK.

Levi is survived by brothers Harley and Arthur, sisters Carmaleta and Gloria, children Charlotte (Neil) Knutson, Albert (Trudy) McFarland, David Joe (Vicki) McFarland, Ken Kuhns, Karol (Mark) Dennis, 12 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his poodle, Emma. Levi was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emery, Lawrence, Leroy, Albert, sister Louise, and, in 2010, his beloved wife of 41 years, Maryann--his "Annie". Levi was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Avenue, Port Angeles WA 98362 (ph. 360-452-2323).

A Celebration of his Life will be held there on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 1 p.m. There will be a short service followed by a reception with refreshments, stories, and music. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Levi's memory to Hospice of Clallam County (or your local branch) is suggested.
