Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 6th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company F on August 26, 1861. He served through his regiment's participation in the battles on Virginia and Pennsylvania, and re-enlisted in February 18, 1864. When his regiment's term of service expired, he was transferred to Company E of the 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He served through the conclusion of the war, and was honorably mustered out on July 17, 1865.
