Jean Shewan Abata was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 31, 1960. Her father was William T. Shewan (1933 - 1994) and her mother was Rosemary Akre Shewan (1938 - 2012).
Jean graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School in 1974, St. Benedict Academy in 1978, and Behrend College in 1983. On June 19, 1982 Jean married Daniel Abata (1959 - 2019). Jean and Dan had a daughter and a son. Jean worked in the Domestic Relations department of the Erie County Courthouse for 13 years.
Jean died on Mar 12, 2005 after a three year battle against breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, William Shewan. She was survived by her husband of 22 years and their two children. She was also survived by her mother, Rosemary Shewan, one brother and three sisters.
Jean died young, short of her 45th birthday, and is greatly missed by her family.
