Carl P. Wendell, 54, vice president of the Gloversville City Nantional Bank and Trust Company, died yesterday at his home, 18 Highland Terrace, in that city. Death was due to a heart ailment. He had been ill about three years, but able to be about until a few days ago.
Mr. Wendell served for 12 years as cashier and prior to that had been assistant cashier in the Gloversville bank. More recently he was named as director in recognition of his excellent work and afterwards was chosen a vice-president of the bank.
Mr. Wendell was also treasurer of the Gloversville Chamber of Commerce for some years and took an active part in all civic affairs. At one time prior to his illness he was a member of the Eccentric Club and retained his membership in Gloversville Lodge of Elks. He was an attendant at the Fremont Methodist Church in Gloversville and graduate of the Gloversville Business School.
Mr. Wendell was a native of Sprout Brook, Montgomery County, where he was born December 27, 1888. There after he would have been 55 years old on Monday of next week. He had resided in Gloversville for 34 years.
The survivors are his wife, Alice, one daughter, Mrs. Albert Peck, two grandchildren, three brothers, John D. Wendell, Albany, Walter, Ames and C. B. Wendell, Hagaman, also two sisters Mrs. Theresa Shoemaker and Mrs. Will Flint, of Fort Plain.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Fred Clark will officiate and burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
