Helen Viola Huddleston

Helen Viola Huddleston, 96, of Guymon, died Tuesday evening, August 8, 2000 at her home in Guymon.

The daughter of Joseph Dorman and Erdine Vinetta (Small) Pierce, she was born near Hastings, Minn., on October 29, 1903. In 1906, the family moved to Oklahoma Territory and filed on a homestead 14 miles west and two miles north of Guymon.

Helen attended high school at Panhandle Agriculture Institute in Goodwell. She then attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell and earned an A.B. degree. She taught school for 21 years at Pleasant Hill, Beulah, Redpoint (Red Point), Union Center, James Center and Browns Corner.

She was united in marriage to Roy Edward Huddleston on July 29, 1924. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1977.

Mrs. Huddleston was a member of the James Church of God. In 1980, she moved to Guymon from the James Community and placed her church membership with the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of the No Man's Land Senior Citizens and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include one son, Roy Joe Huddleston and his wife, Nadine of Goodwell; one daughter, Zella Shubert of Guymon; one sister, Mildred Ross of Booker, Texas; seven grandchildren: Pat Shubert and his wife, Sue of Anderson, Ind., Ed Shubert and his wife, Marci of Cedar Vale, Kan., Billy Huddleston and his wife, Leta of Scott City, Kan., Cathy Evans of Amarillo, Texas, Donnie Huddleston and his wife, Valerie of Goodwell, Shirley and her husband, Sonny Clark of Amarillo and Sandie and her husband, David Dunstan of Amarillo, 17 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning, August 11 at 10 a.m. from the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Chaffin officiating. Interment will be in the Texhoma Cemetery under the direction of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

The Huddleston family suggest memorials be given to the Panhandle Nutrition Center, The Victory Memorial United Methodist Church Missionary Fund or the Helen Huddleston Oklahoma Panhandle State University Scholarship Fund. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
