A 54-year-old Marietta man was killed Thursday night in an auto collision a half-mile north of Hiwassee on Georgia 75, the Georgia State Patrol reported.
The man was identified as Harry Rufus Churchwell of 313 Freydale Road. He was employed by a life insurance company as an agent.
Investigators said that one car, apparently stopped in the highway, was hit by another.
Services for Churchwell will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Ellison and the Rev. W. P. Cornwell officiating. Intermanet will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Athens. Hay Funral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Churchwell was a native of Columbia, Tenn. He was graduated from the Columbia High School. For a number of years, he was an instructor in the Rogers Hosiery Mill in Athens. For the past 11 years, he had been in the insurance business. At the time of his death he was a representative for the Life of Georgia Insurance Company. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Marietta Moose Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nellie Katherine Gray; daughters, Mrs. Dupree Wilkes, Athens, Mrs. Curtis E. Hammond, Acworth, Mrs. Elaine Little, Marietta; sister, Mrs. Marvin Foster, Shelbyvile, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Charlie Churchwell, Shelbyville, Tenn., Mrs. Max Churchwell, Russellville, Ala.; grandchidren, several nieces and nephews.
