ELIAS D. STOCKSTILL

Elias D. Stockstill, one of the early pioneers of Shelby county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Strahlem, in Clinton township, Monday. He was born in Clark county, November 14, 1808. He married Elizabeth Shroyer in Miami county in 1829, moving to Salem township four years later, where he built a log cabin and cleared 200 acres of the 400 acres of land he had bought. He moved to Sidney in 1874. His wife died February 16, 1896, ever since which time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Strahlem. He was the father of 11 children, eight of whom are living - Frank and Peter, of Sidney; Andrew W. and Henry L., of Salem township; Thomas, of Orange; David W., of Washington; John P., of New Carlisle, Miami county, and Mrs. Strahlem.
