Merle Andrews was a Highway Patrolman for the California Highway Patrol. He worked 9 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 39. While conducting a felony traffic stop of a suspect wanted in connection of a robbery and kidnapping, he cautiosly approached the vehicle while calling for back-up. The suspect opened fire, fatally wounding Officer Andrews. The suspect was apprehended.
