From an article written about the picture of him with saucepan and the rake. "If farmers of Quebec had given a "Congenial farmer of the year award" in the late 1800's one of those to whom they might have given consideration is Ralph Getty, who lived in Dunham.
Beyond his agricultural efficiency, he was a water diviner and helped folks locate sources of water. By attaching gold or silver pieces to the end of the divining rod he also could help locate lost items. When a nearby house wife, Mrs. Lavery, mother of Harman Lavery of Richford, lost her golden wedding ring in the kitchen sink and it was carried down the drain and out into the garden, Mr. Getty worked over the area and located the spot from which it was retrieved.
He provided entertainment during a barn raising. When the highest beam was up, he would turn a handspring on it. He spoke of himself as a descendant of a "Skedaddler"-- which was the name given to the Tory. He was proud of his galluses ( suspenders)."
