James Powell Swanson, 42, died at his home in Water Valley, Monday. A native of Pontotoc County, he had lived in Water Valley about a year. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Services were held at Water Valley Church of Christ Tuesday with Ralph Bruce officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alvin Price Sr., Gerald Harris, Doke French, Orville Martin, L.C. Stewart and William Camp.

Mr. Swanson leaves his wife, Mrs. Jewell Mathis Swanson; seven sons, Paul, Robert, David, John Phillip and Nathan Doyle all of Water Valley, Eugene and Ladell Swanson of Randolph; four daughters Nancy Swanson of Water Valley, Mrs. Wandalene Underwood, Mrs. Maxine Sanada, Mrs. Powellette Brown; two stepsons, William A. and Jimmie D. McCormick of Water Valley; six brothers Henry Swanson of Calhoun City; Alvis Swanson of Pittsboro; Royce Swanson, Houlka; Willie Swanson of Bruce; Harrison Swanson of Springville; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Renfro of Pascagoula; Mrs. Dottie Dodson of Houlka; his mother Mrs. Bessie Swanson of Houlka and four grandchildren.
