Carmen is survived by four daughters, Irma Cantu and husband, Joe, of Brownsville, Texas; Ana Seay and husband, Bill, of Fort Worth, Texas; Janie Rosamond and husband, Bud, Frances Alvarez and husband, Joe, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sons, Frank Alvarez, III and wife, JoAnn, of Fort Worth, Texas; Joey O. Alvarez and wife, Zonia, of Pharr, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 01, 2005, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Ernesto Perez officiating. The services were followed by a private burial.
Mrs. Alvarez was a homemaker until her children were in their teens when she went to work for her sister-in-law at Montalvo's Cafe in Harlingen. When she and her husband moved to Corpus Christi in 1965 she went to work part-time in the retail business at Colbert's, where her daughter, Rosie, was also employed. She worked there for about 25 years, the last years being full time. She loved to go see her boys and grandsons play ball and made every local game.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always had a smile on her face and was always fun to be around. She was loving and caring and always made friends feel good when we visited her or, in the case of friends far away, called to check on her.
She is greatly missed, just knowing we cannot be with her any longer in any way on this earth. However, there is peace in knowing she is in a much better place and we will see her smiling face there again one day.
Please see the memorial for her husband, Frank Alvarez, Jr.
