A native of Lexington, N.C., she was born March 2, 1920 to Grady and Vernelle Rhodes.
Upon completion of high school, she moved to Charlotte, NC, where she graduated from The Mercy School of Nursing. During this time, she met the love of her life, Thomas Bernard Autrey Jr., and they wed on 02/22/1941.
Mother and Dad were charter members of Carmel Country Club Charlotte, NC. Mother was not happy being idle, she was an avid golfer, loved playing bridge, active in the Charity League of Charlotte, and working in her prized rose garden. She attended Providence United Methodist Church and was member of the Chipley Sunday School Class. She will be missed by her loving family and her many friends.
Helen is survived by her sons and their wives: Ronald K. and Betty Autrey, Randolph B. and Brenda Autrey, and Thomas Rodney (Rod) and Ava Likens Autrey; eleven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were husband Bernard, brothers Coley Rhodes, Kenneth Rhodes, Grady Rhodes Jr. and sister Elise Rhodes Honeycutt.
Helen will be laid to rest in Charlotte next to her husband at Sharon Memorial Park during a private ceremony.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held 11am March 2 in Charlotte at Providence United Methodist Church.
