Funeral services for Andrew Lafayette "Dick" Smith, 80 year old retired farmer, were held Wednesday at Van Alstyne Christian Church with Rev. Newman McLarry officiating. Burial was in Van Alstyne Cemetery directed by Fox-Fanning Funeral Home. He died Tuesday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman. He was born on February 25, 1869 in Newton County, Arkansas. He is survived by his sons, Clarence Nite Smith, James Samuel Smith, John William "Willie" Smith, and Roy Cecil Smith, all of Van Alstyne; his daughter, Mary Barbara George of Weston; his step-daughter, L'Meda Burchfield; his brothers, Rufus "Dock" Smith and William Pierce Smith, both of Huntsville, Arkansas, and Henry Lawson Smith of Cache, Oklahoma; his sisters, Arminte Belle "Mintie" Frederick of Marble, Arkansas and Elizabeth Jane Eden of Denver, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
