A confirmed Bachelor, Charles Wescott Newman was a professional soldier who never married, never had children, but he was my mother's Uncle Charlie and his family wants to memorialize him, as he was a good man. He was in Co. L 74th Infantry, American Legion. Charles developed TB and lived in retirement with his mother, Bessie Rowles Newman in a log cabin in Canada where Bessie's sister Anna Dyson lived. After a while Charles and mother Bessie moved back to Nebraska where he passed away. The US flag draped on his coffin was given to my grandmother, his sister Sybil, and my mother gave it to me, which I keep in a bank vault.
