Mary L. Wilkens, 72, of Hamilton, died at 10:08 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in Keokuk Area Hospital. She was boirn Nov. 16, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, to Lawrence Albert and Hortense Henderson Montgomery. She served with the U.S. Army as a colonel in the nursing profession. She had been a resident of Hamilton since 1970. Prior to retirement, she was director of nursing at the Carthage Hospital. She married Joseph R. Wilkens on Nov. 22, 1968, in Silver Springs, Md. He survives. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Clive (Rose) Skates of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Howard (Marvel) Derr of Keokuk; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a number of great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers. Services were today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton with the Rev. R.M. Lukoskie and Rev. Greg Ketchum officiating. Burial was in the St. Patrick Cemetery, St. Patrick, Mo. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hamilton and Rev. Greg Ketchum. Greaves Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
