Mrs. Shumpert, widow of Baron B. Shumpert, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007. Born in Swansea, she was the daughter of the late Fred Jackson and Bertha Argoe Jackson. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a member of Oakdale Home Extension, and she was the recipient of the 50 year pin.

Surviving are her daughters, Francelle Perry and husband, Dr. Robert Perry of West Columbia, Marilyn Smith and her husband, Ray of Cayce, Sally Sprunger and husband, Steve of Marietta, GA ; sons, Dr. B. Clayton Shumpert and his wife, Joan of West Columbia, Wendelle Shumpert and his wife, Diane of West Columbia; sisters, Betty Jackson of West Columbia, Mary Ruth Jackson and Harriett White both of Lexington; brothers, Theron Jackson of Cayce, James Jackson of West Columbia; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Her family wishes to pay tribute to her loving memory. Her priorities centered around faith, family, and good friends. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, and sisters were precious to her. The greatest year of Willie Mae Shumpert's life was 1958 when she received Christ as her personal Savior. She followed Christ in believer's baptism to express her new-found faith. She also loved flowers, good food, and a beautiful garden. Her children wish to say "Thank You" for all of her years of service to us. She has moved to that land which is fairer than day; that home in Heaven where there is no more pain, no sorrow, no more tears. Heaven has a new morning now. It is where Christ abides but also the place where she resides. Psalm 116:15 -"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."
