Ephraim married Emma Marlen, daughter of William Riggs Marlen and Jane Gant, on September 4 1856 in Chester, Randolph County, Illinois. Three known children were born of this union; William b. 1857, Clifton b.1860 and Caroline b.1862.

He was a sergeant in the Union Army out of Illinois - 80th Illinois Infantry, Company E. Muster, Sept 9 1863. A head injury plagued him with seizures the rest of his life.

Was an 89er Oklahoma homesteader along with his daughter Caroline Bailey and her family and his son Clifton and his family, but left Oklahoma after the death of his wife Emma.

Ephraim later married the widow Sarah Pickens of Colorado Springs Nov. 28, 1908 which was most likely a marriage of convenience for as he did not spend much time there. And when she applied for widow benefits she did not know where he was born or where he actually died.
