BURLEY – Therald Ira Buttars, age 78, of Burley, went peacefully to Heaven on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. He was surrounded by the people that loved him most.
Therald was born on Nov. 6, 1934, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Ira and Gennie Dahle Buttars. He grew up on a sheep ranch south of Burley, and some of his fondest memories were working on the ranch with his father.
After high school, Therald joined the United States Army and served in Alaska. While in the military, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
After his service, he came back to Burley where he fell in love and married Helen Virginia Hitt. Together, they raised three children, Carey, Joni, and Darin.
Therald was well-liked by everyone who knew him. People knew Therald to be an honest man with a lot of integrity. He loved selling farm equipment all over the Northwest. Farmers always looked forward to working and visiting with him.
He had a love of life and enjoyed so many things. Mostly, he enjoyed fishing and riding his four-wheeler. But above all, he loved his family. He always supported them in every way possible. He was the strength and foundation of his family.
Therald is survived by his wife, Helen Buttars; his sister, Colleen Shepherd; his three children, Carey Buttars, Joni Armstrong and Darin (Christine) Buttars; four grandchildren, Taylor Armstrong, Quinton Buttars, Zachary Buttars and Ethan Buttars; and two great-grandchildren, Ashton Armstrong and Brody Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Deval and Cleo; two sisters, Arlene Robinson and LaDean Buttars; and a granddaughter, Ali Buttars.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Bishop Thomas Garrard officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
