Bob Balter, a retired Lewiston salesman, passed away Thursday August 30,2001, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston from complications of surgery. He was 66.
He was born March 31,1935, to Lawrence S and Snowie McCurry Balter in New Plymouth, Idaho, and attended school there, graduating in 1955.
Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. Bob and Charlene Johnston were married in Couer d'Alene Feb. 23,1963. They made their home in Lewiston and he worked as a
salesman for for 31 years in auto parts and wall and floor coverings. He retired in 1997. Bob joined the Hells Canyon Gem Club in 1987, He was an avid fisherman and talented
wood carver. He also enjoyed faceting gemstones, gardening and sharing the harvest from his garden. His survivors include his wife, Charlene, at their Lewiston home; a daughter,
Lisa Chambers of Lewiston; son Derek Balter of Lewiston; one sister, Geneva Walker of Clarkston; four brothers, George Balter and Bill Balter , both of New Plymouth, Harold Balter of Cheshire, Oregon and Kenneth Balter of Blackfoot, Idaho; seven nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. The graveside service is at
11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston with the Rev. Mark Brewster officiating. Memorials are suggested to the American heart Association in care of Nancy
Shell, 524 Linden Drive, Lewiston, or a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston.
