Viola Petska, age 86, a Manitowoc resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at Laurel Grove Assisted Living, Manitowoc.

Viola was born July 26, 1916 in the town of Cato, daughter of the late Wencel and Ludmilla Hovorka Shimon. She was educated at Branch and married Eugene F. Petska, Sr., Sept. 6, 1937 at Melnik. After farming in Kewaunee County for many years, they resided in the village of Denmark before retiring to Manitowoc. Eugene preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1977. Viola was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved flowers, reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles and a good game of cribbage. A great cook and baker, she made the best biscuits and chicken ever.

Survivors include her children: Gloria (Donald) Samz, Two Rivers; Beverly (Bernie) Nowicki, Sheboygan; Gene (Bonnie) Petska, Jr., Green Bay; nine grandchildren: Cheri (David) Sylla; Dawn (Roy) Wendt; Mike Samz; Tina (Mike) Buelow; Carrie Same; Jeff (Kelly) Nowicki; Mary Nowicki; Craig Petska and Amy Petska; five great-grand-children; a sister. Helen Wicihomki, Manitowoc; a brother. Victor Shimon, Manitowoc; sister-in-law: Genevieve Rabitz, Mishicot; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband: Eugene; she was preceded in death by a grandson: David Samz: a special brother Ed Shimon and numerous brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at The Reinhold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State St., Manitowoc, with the Rev. William O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth National Cemetery, town of Kossuth.

Relatives and Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at The Reinhold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc, to the time of service at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in her name.
