Robert (Ray, Bob, Bobby) Burford was more than an avid athlete, if you knew him, you knew he was full of life.
A graduate of the University of Florida, Bobby was a regular on the Florida Gators Football Team, winning his first varsity letter with the Gators while just a sophomore.
In high school he played for the Jefferson High "Magicians" in Roanoke, Virginia, and was a very well known name. Good enough to be offered a scholarship.
Standing 6' 4," and weighing a solid 225 pounds, he was well built and his position with the Gators would've been the equivalent of a Tight End, a hybrid position, in which he played both offense and defense.
One year he was chosen from the Florida Gators Football Team to play in the premier "Blue Gray Football Classic All-Star Game," where he was coached by the legendary football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.
"Caught a 23-yard, last quarter touchdown pass, against Auburn to give the Gators an upset victory over the Tigers... and recovered one opponent's fumble. Bobby Burford is considered a steady, hard working athlete and should be a Gator regular again this season."
