HARTFORD CITY - Johnny "John" Henry Hess, 78, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Bridgewater Center for Health and Rehab.
He was born in Hartford City on April 2, 1934 to the late Lee Hess and the late Edith (Landis) Hess.
Johnny married his first wife, Geraldine (Hall) Hess on February 7, 1953. She preceded him in death on October 31, 1978.
He married his second wife Shirley A. (Wrestler) Hess on January 27, 1979 in Hartford City at the Apostolic Tabernacle Church.
He retired from CPC-General Motors in Marion, Indiana in 1996 after twenty years of service. His home church was Apostolic Tabernacle Church in Hartford City, and he was a member of Living Waters of Apostolic Church in Marion for the past year. He was also a member of UAW #977 in Marion.
Johnny will be sadly missed by his wife, Shirley A. Hess of Hartford City; daughter, Johnny Henri (Husband, Lowell J.) Gordon of Hartford City; grandchildren, William J. (wife, Gail M.) Wallace, Rachel E. (husband, Mark A.) Tucker, Clyde E. (wife, Megan L.) Wallace; great-grandchildren, Hannah Wallace, Micaela Wallace, Asa Wallace, Brandon Tucker, Abigail Tucker, Timothy "Timmy" Tucker, Cye Wallace, Jonathon Wallace and Zarya Wallace; brother, Virgil Hess of Portland; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, sister, Ellamae Chapman, brothers, Robert Hess, Harry Hess and Lee Hess Jr.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City with Rev. William J. Wallace of Thy Kingdom Come Ministries officiating and assisted by Rev. Robert Morrell of Living Waters Apostolic Church. Burial will follow at Hartford City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
