Robert Glendon Brandenburg, 84, of Berea, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 24, 2009, in the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. Mr. Brandenburg was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Berea to the late H. P. and Laura Ray Brandenburg. He attended Kingston High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944. He served in France during World War II and was honored with the Purple Heart. Glendon was employed by the Lexington Blue Grass Army Depot in Ammunitions for 32 years before retiring in 1980. He was a lifelong member of the Berea Baptist Church, having served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and usher. He also was an avid gardener and sports fan. Glendon is survived by: his wife of 61 years; two sons; three sisters; three grandchildren; 37 nieces and nephews also survive Glendon. He was preceded in death by: his brother, Lowell Brandenburg; and sister, Edith King. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Berea Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Slemp and the Dr. Rev. Lee Morris officiating. Burial will be in Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday Dec. 28, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lakes Funeral Home.
