Syracusan fatally hurt in automobile crash
3 others injured when truck is hit near Gouverneur

Mrs. Georgia Aldridge Minor, 26, of 707 Jamesville ave., was injured fatally and three other Syracusans were injured late Saturday night when their car rammed a flare-marked tractor-trailer truck parked in Route 11, south of Gouverneur.
Mrs. Minor died in Noble hospital, Gouverneur, at 4:30 a.m. yesterday, six hours after the accident. She had a punctured lung.
Her husband, Morgan R. Minor, Jr., was injured slightly and did not require hospitalization. He is the manager of the luncheonet at the Whelan Co. store at 300 S. Salina st.
The others injured were Mr. and Mrs. Alexander B. Astley of 713 Jamesville ave. Each suffered a fracture of the jaw and other undetermined injuries. They remained in Noble hospital.
State police of the Gouvernour substation said the truck, owned by the Cleveland Container Co. of Ogdensburg, was headed north, driven by Charles L. Pridge of 715 State st., Ogdensburg.
Pridge, police said, had halted his truck two miles south of Gouverneur when a fire caught in the rear wheel assembly, apparently set by a deflated tire.
The Gouverneur fire department, called by Pridge, put out the fire. The driver set flares about his machine, parked in a long curve of the road.
The Syracuse car, driven by Astley, ran into the left corner of the truck. The driven apparently saw the flares too late to avoid the crash, state police said. The car was badly damaged. It did not roll over.
Dr. Ernest E. Adler of Gouverneur was called to the scene and gave first aid before the injured motorists were removed to the hospital. Dr. Adler was named coroner's physician by Dr. A.D. Burr of Gouverneur, coroner.
A verdict of death due to accidental causes was given in the death of Mrs. Minor. There will be no inquest or autopsy. The body was released to the Sprague funeral home, Gouverneur.
Mrs. Minor was a native of Munroe, N.C. She was born Feb 19, 1924, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Aldrich. She lived in Syracuse approximately two years.
Surviving are her husband, her parents; a son, William Scott Minor; a brother, John Aldrich of Munroe; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Moree of Lancaster, N.C.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
