Mrs. Charlotte May Burton Pike was born in Indian Territory, near Ada, Oklahoma, January 19, 1889. Her parents were Jospeh Johnson and Ida Lou (Hodges) Burton. She was married August 27, 1911, at her parent’s home in Lakeview, Hall County, to Archie Wade Pike. They resided in Lela for many years prior to moving to Azle three years ago. Mrs. Pike was a member of the Methodist Church in Lakeview.

Mrs. Pike, age 69 years old, died Wednesday morning, June 4, at her home in Sunset Highlands Community in Azle, following a long illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Wade Pike, a former long-time resident of Lela, were held at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon in the Lela Methodist Church with Rev. O.C. Evans, retired pastor, officiating. Serving as pallbearers at the rites in Lela were: Valdee Brown, Dale Wells, Jess Pennington, Clyde Nix, Clois Hanner and James Reneau. Interment was in Shamrock Cemetery with Farris Funeral Home in charge of arrangements, assisted by Clay Funeral Home of this city.

Survivors are: her husband, Archie Wade Pike, Sr., Azle; two daughters, Mrs. William Gott, Lubbock; and Mrs Ruth Dennis, Havenna, Ohio; two sons, Archie Wade Pike, Jr., Fort Worth; and Billie Joe Pike, Azle; and 15 grandchildren.

Also surviving are: one sister, Mrs. A. B. Pike, Sequim, Washington; five brothers, Homer, Leo and Blaine Burton, all of San Jon, N.M.; Byron Burton, Sequim, Washington; and Allen Burton, Gallup, N.M.

Three children preceded their mother in death, passing away in infancy.
