COPAKE Columbia County - Dr. C Murray Jenkins, D.V.M., 70, a 44 year resident of Coake, died Friday at Columbia Greene Medical Center, Hudson Columbia County.
Dr. Jenkins resided in New Paltz until 1946 when he moved to Copake.
From 1948 to 1985, he was co-founder and senior partner of the Copake Veterinary Hospital. Later he was a New York state veterinary field supervisor until his retirement in 1992.
Dr. Jenkins was a charter member and past president of the Copake Lions Club, a member of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the American Veterinary Society and the Capital District Veterinary Medical Society.
A member of the West Copake Reformed Church, he was was an elder.
He attended New Paltz School and he was a 1946 graduate of SUNY at Cornell with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Born in New Paltz on Aug. 19, 1922, he was the son of David M. and Ruth Decker Jenkins.
On Oct 3, 1948, in Carmel, he married the former Barbara A Knapp, who survives in West Copake, Columbia County.
Also surviving are his mother of Catskill, Green County, a daughter, Martha J. Wing of Fairport, Monroe County, three sons, George D. of Redford, Texas, Robert M. of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and Raymond H. Jenkins of Coplay, Pa.; a brother, Dr. Dubois Jenkins of Catskill; and 10 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, Route 32 Copake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the West Copake Reformed Church with the Rev. James Chase officiating.
Burial will be in new Paltz Rural Cemetery.
