Quitman Man Shot To Death
Jesse W. Tibbit, Sr., 56 year old Quitman man, was shot and killed on a Hodge street Tuesday morning about 9:20 according to Jackson Parish Deputy Sheriff Van Beasley.
Tibbit and Ralph Elton Anderson, 54, of Jonesboro allegedly exchanged gunfire as a result of a long-standing feud between them.
Only two shots were said to have been fired, one by each of the men.
Anderson is being held in the Jackson Parish jail on a charge of murder. A Special grand jury investigation into the shooting is scheduled for today.
Funeral services for Tibbit were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Raleigh Willis officiating. Burial followed in the Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leola Tibbit of Quitman; three sons, Jesse W. Tibbit, Jr., of Hodge, Frank Henry Tibbit of Quitman and Francis Merle Tibbit of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Gale Quarles of Quitman;
Four brothers, Willie Tibbit of Ruston, Bill Tibbit of Winnsboro, Quinton Tibbit of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Eugene Tibbit of Monroe; five sisters, Mrs. Polly Miller and Mrs. Ida Miller, both of El Dorado, Ark., Miss Katie Mae Tibbit, Mrs. Mattie Williams of Ft. Worth and Mrs. Etta Pendry of Ruston; and five grandchildren.
