John Sidney Alford, of Issaquah, died on Friday, January 25, 2013. He was 90 years old.

John was born, the 4th child of seven, on May 12, 1922 in Imperial Calif. to Chester and Evelyn Alford. He grew up in Imperial, Jacumba and San Diego graduating from Hoover High School and later attained an AA degree in night classes. Later in life, after most had retired, the 5 boys & 2 girls named themselves ''the Magnificent Seven'' and would get together each year to tell stories and laugh and laugh and laugh. They were truly magnificent!

He joined the Army Air Corps for WWII as an airplane mechanic. He continued his love for mechanics as quality control inspector for the Air Force working on atlas and ballistic missile programs and early testing of rockets for NASA. He later moved over to the Dept of the Navy based in San Diego. In 1975 he transferred to Seattle area where he retired as Supervisor of Ship Building, Quality Control for the Puget Sound region.

John was passionate about his work, but also his family. He married Ruth in Dec. 1945 and they raised two children, Kelly Ann & Alan John in Lemon Grove, CA and then in Issaquah, WA. The family spent a lot of time camping at the beach, dune-buggying in the dessert, trips with family and several cross country trips to see America. After Ruth's death in 1980 he sought out and married Marcy. They enjoyed his retirement working on the property in Issaquah, gardening, cutting wood, but mostly traveling and visiting family & friends all around North America in their motor home. It was around this time he acquired the nickname of King John which he proudly used. After Marcy's passing in 2005, John met and courted Dolores and after two years they married in August of 2007. They set upon a life of fun, entertainment, and travel. They enjoyed and loved one another immensely. Dolores' family was close by for support. Jim and Lisa Black and their sons, Hank and Byron enjoyed John and Dolores every day.

He was a founding member of Mary, Queen of Peace Parish and heavily involved in the building of the church. He was also proudly a member of Knights of Columbus.

His wife, children and family will forever miss him but most of all for his humor, his entertainment skills, his endless desire for exploring and learning, the dune buggies, the tinkering and building, the endless wood piles, the "Alford" tacos, John's BBQ chicken and his love of Scotch.

His is survived by his third wife, Dolores Black Alford of Issaquah; daughter, Kelly Alford of Renton, WA; son, Alan Alford of Chula Vista, CA; grandchildren, Mitchell and Gracyn; and his sister, Genevieve of Camry, CA.
