George was born in Greene County, PA and was a farmer in Washington Township, Greene County, PA until 1858, when he was elected Sheriff of Greene County. At that time the family moved to Waynesburg. After his term as Sheriff was over, the family remained in Waynesburg. George never returned to farming, but became a businessman in Waynesburg. Among other enterprises, he built the Hotel Walton in Waynesburg, where his youngest child was born.

According to the Waynesburg Republican of Aug 11 1863, George was buried in the "Ruff Creek Baptist Church" Cemetery.

George married Lucinda Booher on April 24 1849. They were the parents of eight children, six of whom grew to adulthood. They were Elizabeth (Mrs. David) Null, Rachel (Mrs. Edmund) Doty, Emma (Mrs. James) Stiles, Jackson F, Nancy (Mrs. Benjamin) Hamilton and George B (Mary Matilda Shull).

After George's death, Lucinda married Stephen White, a widower and respected businessman. Lucinda died July 8 1879 and Stephen died March 3 1885. They are buried next to each other on a hilltop near Deep Valley. In 1981, a headstone was placed at the site by their descendents, but their resting place is not a known or named cemetery.
