CARVER Louie James Carver, 95, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, February 23. He was born in a log house in Central Community in Suwannee County, Florida on June 25, 1917 to Stonewall Jackson Carver and Verdie Howell Carver. For a time, the family also lived in Delray Beach Florida.
Louie was a Boy Scout, Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster. Even though Louie was the oldest of five children, he was preceded in death by his sisters Helen and Betty and brothers Jack and Pete.
Louie served in the Navy in World War II in the Pacific Theater on service vessels USS LST 879, LC (FF) 423 and LC (FF) 367. He was honorably discharged on February 7, 1946.
Louie and Alma McClellan were married on June 25, 1946 at Springfield Baptist Church, of which his mother was a founding member. They resided in Springfield until 1956 when they moved to the Englewood Neighborhood on the Southside. Louie was a devoted volunteer at Springfield Baptist Church. He was also a founding member of the Greater Englewood Neighborhood Association (G.E.N.A.). Louie was a retired building contractor in Duval and Nassau counties.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 66 years, Alma; daughter Dora Carver (Clarence Bud Frazier); two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; great-nieces and great -nephews; church family members and many friends. Nephews will act as Pallbearers for the services; and Nephew Mitchell McDaniel will be sharing family remembrances.
Visitation/Viewing for family and friends will be Saturday morning 10AM at Springfield Baptist Church, 1106 Liberty Street in the Springfield Historic District. The funeral service will follow at 11AM conducted by Dr. Kenneth Roe and Dr. Charles Fouraker. Graveside services will be held at 2:30PM at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd. conducted by Rev. Frank Pintello. A coffee reception for friends, neighbors and family will follow at the 4300 Building in the cemetery. Flowers are welcome and /or donations may be made to Springfield Baptist Church in memory of Louie. Please bring your photos to add to our Memorial Bulletin Board.
